Wind Gap: Turn Right. Go Left.

Notes from the main drag. Wind Gap, PA. 1 September 2007.

Abandoned On Route 309

A few of the many places that only show signs, shadows and scars of what they once were. Route 309. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.

Service. Washing. Lubrication.

Craig Motors. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.

Monuments: Sacred & Desecrated

Hazleton Memorial Company and St. Jospeh's Cemetery. The jarring image of the skull and crossbones at the foot of the mammoth crucifix is in tribute to the victims of a triple murder dating back to 1897. In addition, there are many child graves in one area as well as a large number of stones which appear to have been vandalized at random. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.

South Pine & East Noble

South Pine & East Noble Streets. Hazleton, PA. The shed and adjoined garage behind the house my father grew up in remains unchanged for many years. The house itself? Lets just say that some remodeling jobs don't really improve things. 1 September 2007.

Quiet Tracks

A block in from the main strip. The start of a neighborhood that is most certainly goins south. The "other side of the tracks"... literally. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.

Locomotive: No Longer Motive

Among giant mounds of coal along Route 309. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.

The Knotty Pine

Since 1937... revamped sometime in the 1950s. Still gorgeous, still bright and gleaming. Immaculate interior. Great burgers. Hazleton, PA. 1 September 2007.
