Creature Feature: Snail

CLICK THE SNAIL TO POP IT LARGE
Walking back from shooting the "tree island" pics, I happened upon this little guy by simply looking down at what I thought was a colorful pebble on the white stripe along the road. However, it was not. I watched it move along at the proverbial snail's pace, snapped some pics and let us both be on our way. 29 June 2007.

Island Of Trees

CLICK THE PIC TO POP THE TREE ISLAND.
I'm always intrigued by this island of trees in this clearing behind my house everytime I drive by it. How is everything around it flat while these trunks and boughs persevere? Strangely beautiful. A short walk from my home. Basking Ridge, NJ. June 2007.

Darress Theatre Alley: Marquee 1

Darress Theatre. Boonton, NJ. June 2007.
The marquee had to be removed and stored away after a truck jumped a curb backed into it on Main Street. (For other photos of this place, click the "Darress" tab below.) Torrential rain pours down behind in the alley where it sits for now (and ever?)

Casino Breezeway with Demolished Skating Palace

A cellphone picture from the boardwalk. 2 June 2007.

The main ballroom and Skating Palace has been razed and will be rebuilt as per the original Warren and Wentmore designs. Decorative elements such as bay windows and chandeliers have been extricated and stored away. To see pre-demolition pics as well as interior shots of the fascinating decay that this place was transformed by for a time, click on the "Asbury Park" tag below or keep scrolling to backtrack.

Asbury Casino Floor and Powerplant

Another phone pic... 2 June 2007.
Walking on the cement slab where the Skating Palace and Ballroom used to be. Many ruts and divots from the vines and roots and trees that grew inside (many pics on later pages) have scarred this flat surface but the original tilework from the main entrance as well as the restrooms are visible. I also collected some of the rusted ceiling beams (also visible on later pages).

Breezeway: Getting ready for a new phase...Asbury Casino

Tele-foto with telefono... (I didn't have the big cam with me)...

RELOAD: A Day At The County Fair...

Daredevil Sky Ride! Sussex County Fair. New Jersey. There is as good a show on the ground as there is in the sky here... Carnies with questionable dental hygiene and thrill seeking fair-goers straight outta the Jerry Springer Show. (REMEMBER: Check the tooth to tattoo ratio when making new friends at the Fairgrounds.)

It's a completely different place at night. A glowing cavalcade of delights and entertainments. The smell of funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos and Twinkies, fresh lemonade, salty pretzels the size of your head... and the windswept smell of stale beer from under the flaps of the Bud Light Tent.

Hit 500... Ping!
