I have never been more ready to see Spring
than I have been after this past winter.
In fact, the season of renewal means more
and more to me with each passing year.

Eve Arden is your firm, but fair nurse.
She is having absolutely none of your shit.
Recently, my friend Juliana surprised me with this photo of myself circa 1989. From what I can tell I’m seated on the curb outside the Grand Union supermarket where I worked as a cashier / stock boy / cart retriever / rest room scrubber / floor mopper from ages 16 - 22 (all through high school and college). My standard issue red polyester work jacket sits in my lap and a discarded (mandatory) necktie most likely sat inside one of the pockets. My two-tone blonde / black hair has that “growing out my roots” look and my face has the nonplussed deadpan stare of teen angst which I had perfected decades before we used the term “RBF” to describe such things. My guess is Juliana or someone else snapped this picture as they rolled up in her brand new white VW Cabriolet to pick me up after my shift for a ride to Friendly’s in B’ville or to see a local band play a show. Either way, I’m sure we had a lot of fun. Thanks for this sweet memory surprise, Juliana! Much appreciated. And to that crazy mixed up 16 year old sitting on the curb… Don’t worry, kid. It’s all gonna work out. You won’t BELIEVE what’s ahead for you. JUST. YOU. WAIT.

eBay Score: Vintage Pastels (1960s)
The set was pristine and will definitely
get a lot of use. The box has already been
sourced as material for a new collage.
